PET NEWS - BY DRAGONSAFTERDARK
Patch 10.2.6 is live, and with it we have 5 new pets!

1. Plunderstorm (3)

Get swept away in the Plunderstorm — a fun, new, limited-time, pirate-themed event of prodigious proportions lasting the next several weeks. Scour the map and try to be the last pirate standing while dashing across the Arathi Highlands to find abilities, upgrades, and loot to plunder just to survive!

This event offers 3 pets for players to collect through the Renown with Keg Leg's Crew, the faction in charge of the event.

Happy

It doesn't seem to know where it is, but it's happy to be here!

  • Family: Aquatic
  • Abilities: None - This is a non-combat pet.
  • Renown Rank 6

Bubbles

Where do all of the bubbles come from? What are they made of? Perhaps some mysteries are best left unexplored.

  • Family: Aquatic
  • Abilities: Deep Claw, Coin Toss, Bubble, Bubble Blast (new), Shell Rush, Shell Shield
  • Renown Rank 11

Glamrok

Glamrok followed you back to the ship one day after a particularly good plunder, sensing your keen knack for treasure-finding.

  • Family: Aquatic
  • Abilities: Bubble Blast (new), Spiked Shell, Shell Fortress, Deep Snap (previously only used by NPCs), Coin Toss, Dazzle (new)
  • Renown Rank 30

2. Trading Post (1)

Pokee

The needle in Pokee's chest isn't exactly comfortable fashion, but he's stuck with it.

  • Family: Magic
  • Abilities: Jab, Counterstrike, Surge of Power, Feedback, Clobber, Arcane Storm
  • Source: Trading Post
  • Cost: 350 Trader's Tenders

3. Twitch Drop (1)

Avast ye landlubbers! With the release of the latest content update, players can take the plunge into Plunderstorm. Commemorate the occasion with new Twitch Drops! Watch 4 hours of any World of Warcraft stream on Twitch.tv from March 22, 10:00 a.m. PDT, until April 5, 10:00 a.m. PDT to earn the Fathom pet.

Fathom

Weighed down by all the loot he has plundered. He could share the burden he carries but it turns out he's a little shellfish.

  • Family: Aquatic
  • Abilities: Needle Claw, Dazzle (new), Ice Age, Icy Web, Bubble Blast (new), Shell Fortress

I'm not a PvP player, and I think this is the most time efficient:

I try to do at least the "WQ" (once-per-day quest) every day.

Then, depending on how I feel, I do a bunch of additional matches, always trying to get the once-per-match quest done, then if the storm is near, run into the storm, otherwise just tab out of the game and do something useful or pleasant until my toon is dead (or the match is completely over).

Still annoying though. But my goal is to make it at least till Glamrok (I'm at 20 currently), hopefully the rest too…

Try this extra stap: after you complete your WQ, put your character on autorun, and Do Not Stop. At all. Ever. Just keep heading toward and running over gold piles. That's what I did, and was averaging 700+ per game, so 4-5 games per level, without the daily bonus. You can completely ignore mobs, even run through the thickest concentrations of them, since they won't touch you as long as you Never Never Stop.. Then run into the storm or die whatever way when the storm has gone through 2 or 3 waves and the gold has all been sucked up.

I found it not unpleasant just steering my character on autorun.

Good tip, Gráinne! And yeah, a gold pile speed run can be kind of fun, especially when you have a (not so skilled) PvP clown chasing you for 40s while you collect gold and he just wastes time :) (The best one was this greedy guy who followed me into the storm, where he died 1 second after me – without touching my loot. That saved my day ;)

And now… the suffering is over, reached R40 today :):):)

Why do they have to trap 3 pets behind the woeful Blortnite? I get it that they want us to play it but renown 30 for a pet???

Well that is a week of my life I will never get back but I at least now have the three pets

More PvP shoved up our butts. The promo video for this event implied that we could complete the quests before the PVP and get rewards, but that was a lie. It's like a Maury Povich talk show-level lie.

that's 3 more pets i'll never own :(

Indeed.

I hope there are no unique "gotta have" abilities trapped behind that awful intolerable grind.

Renown: 3
3+ hours in
~17 matches.
I may not get there, but I am going to try. Hopefully I can survive the 40-80 hour overall grind.

Oh I want to have Glamrok and use Deep Snap :D

I assume Pokee's available starting with the April trading post?

How the heck does one gain renown in this Plunderstorm nonsense? I've already played through 10 matches and I'm still renown level 1. And to get Glamrok, you have to reach renown 30? WTF.

Supposedly by killing players or NPCs/quests? I haven't tried it yet so I"m curious what you tried... ?
Reading the comments on the intro post on wowhead, it sounds like nobody likes it and it takes to long to progress through renown and rewards.

Your best bet is to kill as many NPCs as you can, loot the plunder, and avoid the pvp as much as possible. I got to Renown 3 like that yesterday in roughly 8 matches.
ETA: And I always target the Pieces of Hate rares. Almost no one loots the plunder those guys leave behind. (edited)

Thanks for the tip. I'll do that and look out for those rares. Are hey found at hte docks, or after you fly and crash land in the basin?

I've been landing in the middle (you can land on top of rares with your plane and it'll one-shot them), but from what I've seen people saying the best way is to stay on the outer edges and move in with the storm.

I found that my renown didn't go up until I spoke to Captain Keg Leg in the starting area to see my renown

I didn't see quest markers on the map, but I've landed in areas and quests have popped up. It's more fun than I thought it would be, having never played Fortnite, etc. I'm staying away from other players as much possible and collecting as much plunder as I can.
