PET NEWS - BY DRAGONSAFTERDARK
On 13 April Blizzard released patch 9.1 on the PTR, and with the new patch came some new pets and pet-related changes! We'll keep this article updated as more information becomes available.

1. No Pet Journal Level Cap

Yep, you read that correctly: the pet journal no longer has a cap! You are still limited to either 1/1 or #/3 depending on the pet, but for those who are interested in collecting to the cap of each pet, this change will be especially appealing.

2. Covenant Restrictions Removed from Pets...Sort Of

You can now summon your Jiggles, Ruffle, Trootie, or Sinheart on any character! However, they still appear unable to battle outside your character's Covenant.

3. Currency Needed for Next Patch

3.1 Polished Pet Charms: 10,050

3.2 Stygia: 1,500

3.3 Timewarped Badges: 200

3.4 Gold: 2143 gold, 65 silver, and 87 copper

3.5 Gray Value Items:

3.6 Lockboxes:

4. New Pet Toys & Items

  • Forgotten Feather: Give your battle pet the power of the Val'kyr, allowing them to fly alongside you.
  • Elusive Pet Treat: Drop a tiny bone wielding golem for your companion pet to chase around for 30 sec.

5. New Achievements

One new achievement to show up is: A Sly Fox. Which appears as though it might be similar to Dodger in how you get the pet, and in coloring. Maybe they're related!

Lazey has been kind enough to give us a map on how to get Sly, as well as instructions here!

Then we have Many, Many Things, where you'll need to research every talent in the Box of Many Things. This achievement is related to Torghast.

6. New Pet Tamer

Anthea <Carefree Pet Tamer>

Our strategies for Anthea can be found here.

As indicated from Squibbles' drop information, this tamer will have a Grummlepouch as a reward for Temple Throwdown.

She can be found at the Temple of the White Tiger in Kun-Lai Summit at 70.37, 51.35

"My parents are busy defending the Shrine of the... Eight... Coconuts? I wasn't paying attention. That's probably why they left me here. They told me I could train with the big white cat! I'm going to be a ninja! <Anthea kicks several times in your direction.> Ya! Kya! You better watch out! ... I'm bored, do you want to pet battle? I brought all of my favorite pets with me."

Her team consists of:

10,000 coins seems crazy when most vendor pets cost 300-400

Meh. It's just a sink for those few people who have multiple tens of thousands of Charms collected, or will collect over the next year and a half. It won't be a must-have pet; it's just one of the four Baubleworms.

Also consider: they may be planning on switching currencies again after SL. If so, this would provide a way to cash out your devalusing currency.

Wow! Do you really think that ANYTHING in a game that takes that long to acquire is acceptable????? This is one of the reasons why subscriptions keep getting lower and lower. Blizz wastes way too much of people's time. They should be making more content,, not making ridiculous grinds.

Gráinne

I have 15K+ Charms. I have nothing to spend them on. Stones? I have literally 100+ slots full of stacks of stones - Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, the whole rainbow of stones. Bandages? Heh; I have thousands of bandages stewn among a dozen alts.

I have enough supplies in stones to last three expansions, even if I never earned another stone.

And I am far from the most extreme case. There are people with two or three times my stash.

Someone on the DIscord recently noted that they wanted to get the 10K Charms for 9.1, even though they didn't actually have to buy the Baubleworm day 1. (They said they DID have to buy it Day 1 :P ) So they earned, not 10,000, but 20,000 in a couple of months to get one to keep and one to sell.

10K Charms is a lot, but when you play consistently, it is do-able.

And my strong suspicion is that Polished Pet Charms are going to go the way of the old Charms which became Shiny, and become relatively useless at the end of SL: Then, having a sink to dump all those old Charms into will have some value.

Just don't get me started on Bucketshell/Sir Snips ... (edited)

scurrying mawrat is a tough one so far. first one i found was a primary pet battle. the very first ability it used was corpse explosion lol. next one was a secondary pet and after the cage missed 3 times it also used corpse explosion lmao.

3rd time it didn't use it so i got one. a poor version but i will take it ;) (edited)

Thanks for the article. I have 12 characters, one of each class and the command table in Shadowlands is by far the easiest and quickest way to get pet charms. I had 5000 saved for shadowlands and used all of them. I now have through the command tables 7000. Nearly every day I get another 20 or 30 simply by doing command table times 12 toons. I leveled my last toons only a month ago and they catch up quick. MAKE SURE do do the adventure campaign missions there are 20 in all. Also a MUST HAVE ADDON WHICH IS NOT ON CURSE is Ventuire Plan. Wowhead has a guide on Venture Plan here Link: Link

Stick with the command table. Just level one is fine. The charms don't appear until the higher missions.

Special thanks DragonsAfterDark for the article. I was about to stop doing the Pet charm missions now I have 7000 but now will keep doing them.

Direct Link to Venture Plan: https://www.townlong-yak.com/addons/venture-plan/submit-reports

You have to manually copy and paste the extracted files the site has a guide if you don't know how to do this. This ADDON lets you know with 100 percent certainty if you will win the mission. It simulates the entire fight.

you can get lots of pet charms from running the BFA missions as well. unlike in SL each mission gives double coins if the mission success is high. I get 27-32 coins for each mission. i leave 4 alts logged out there and check before i move on to other things.

Well, With a fresh lvl 7 (started doing it at 5,5) I started killing Blackrock Worgs in Northshire. Loads of junk, and; a rabbit's foot. But after about half an hour, I couldn't loot the worgs anymore! Other creatures still drop stuff. Might there be a cap on how many worgs you can kill?.... That would suck, and be weird, but can't think of anything else as a reason.....

Anyone got a trick to farm the 9 grey items for the baubleworms?
I farmed bears and wolfs in felwood for half an hour today.. no luck.. suppose to be 70-80% drop though.

I feel like those of us who have bought the cap extensions on our accounts should be refunded those pet charms.

MagicalBoyTeddy

wrote on 2021-04-14 22:25:32

No, we shouldn't. We have had increased pet storage for a while, before other players. We paid in pet charms for that, and we shouldn't get them back.

I get your point, still feels bad :D
All things considered I'm not expecting blizz to make any sort of compensation and that's ok. Game changes, sometimes you're lucky, sometimes it's bad timing

I bought it around 2 month ago. The problem is, where should they draw the line for a refund? Refunding all of them, even if you bought it years ago, would be too much. I agree with Aranesh, it's just bad luck if you bought it recently.
