This strategy still worked for me even though my Clutch-Sister had 1400 and my Faerie Dragon 1465 health, I just got into a battle with a random pet and lost a little off of the faerie dragon so the clutch sister was swapped to, proceeded to follow strat as written. Came a little close on health to dying a couple times but it should still work I think.

If you have a Sprite Darter Hatchling, it only comes in one breed, so it'll always have less health than the Sister. It's the exact same as a Faerie Dragon.
