Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

High XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
Level 10+
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

Works great with the script in 10.2.0, but NFD has to be S/S breed.

Turbobreakin wrote on 2020-11-12 01:46:37

Tested 11/12/2020 Sprite darter group worked, it just took forever for the snail to kill the last elemental. It was a battle of attrition. (edited)

KiinaiKit

This was my experience too. The strat feels incomplete as a result of Living Coals surviving until Dive was off cooldown twice more beyond the steps detailed above.

Didn't work so well for me, though fortunately I had a Slithershock Elver instead of a levelling pet to finish off the fight. Also tdScript did not activate for me at all, I couldn't figure out why. None of the scripts in the comments worked either, the Auto didn't light up. But at least I won the fight so thanks for the strat!

Ignore my comment about Auto, I had some kind of data corruption in my Rematch.lua saved variables file.

Shywillow

wrote on 2020-11-11 19:56:17

strat / script doesnt work last one just heals through it

I just ended up using water skimmer jet / rain/ pump and water spirit jet / dive / whirlpool

worked far better (edited)

Used Sprite Darter (S/S) and Scooter the Snail (H/H) & Silkbead Snail (B/B) and just could not get passed the last pet no matter the order of abilities I tried with the Snail(s)

I don't see how this failed for you unless you missed a step, I've used this 20+ times never fails, takes a bit of time but it works. Try posting your log next time so we can see what happened/happens.

Crazy easy guide- Any frog (1,2,1) & Mud Jumper (1,1,2) & any level 5+ to swap in

1st enemy
cleansing rain
water jet x3

2nd enemy comes in
kiss (try for that 25% chance, or water jet for extra damage)
frog dies, bring in the mud jumper

pump
water jet
pump

3rd enemy comes in
pump your way to victory (swap here to level pet)

waterjetpump wrote on 2018-03-08 13:24:53

must've gotten lucky, have yet to get this to even come close to working

Wulfy

wrote on 2018-03-08 14:35:33

Where is it going sideways for you? Ive been following this for a while now.
Both pets are 257/273?

WInterfall wrote on 2017-07-18 17:42:49

This does not work for me at all, Snail dies before Devouring Blaze is even close to dead.

Geki wrote on 2017-08-24 01:19:28

I'm really confused. The spriteling should down cackling flame and get devouring blaze down low enough before it dies that the first thing it wants to do to your snail pet is self destruct.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-12-07 08:37:09

Yeah, no clue what this is about. Tried with both a Sprite Darter Hatchling and an S/S Nether Faerie Dragon and multiple snail breeds, and the snail just has no chance against Devouring Blaze. The 3 Striders and the most recent comment with the Slithershock Elver are MUCH better stats. Don't bother with this one.

Evil wrote on 2017-08-02 21:55:57

Eternal Strider (1,2,2) Slithershock Elver (1,1,2)

vs 1st enemy pet:
Pump, Cleansing Rain, Pump

vs 2nd enemy pet:
Pump, Pump (now your Strider dies)

Bring Slithershock Elver
If Elver is faster than 273 speed, use Deep Bite, if slower- pass, enemy pet will explode.

vs 3rd enemy pet
Deep Bite, Dodge, Pass (to get rid of enemy pet shield), Pump, Pump, Deep Bite to finish if needed (depends of breed)

TLDR:

Eternal Strider --> Press 3,2,3,3,3 -> your pet dies, bring
Slithershock Elver --> Press 1,1,2,Pass,3,3,1

Preferable Breeds:

Eternal Strider- P/S
Slithershock Elver ANY except H/P and H/B

Tactic tested with P/S Eternal Strider and both P/P and S/S Slithershock Elver

100% efficient.

This strat works really well, thank you for taking the time to post it! I made a TD script for it - it's nothing fancy and I'm sure it can be cleaned up significantly but it gets the job done. :)

Probably everyone knows the nr 2 alternative tactic with 2 or 3 Striders (which is much better than main tactic!)

but i would like to share with something else and super efficient (always works!)

Tactic in the post above ;)

Thanks :-)

Geki wrote on 2017-07-18 21:49:53

For second pet I'd use the purple puffer. He swaps in, eats the armageddon. Healing touch, load up the pump. Wait for him to finish his heal and the armor plating to drop off. Then a pump-buffed water jet and release the pump and he's gone.

Dunno if they removed or I didn't put the strat here already, on my case I swap the Dragonling for an Eternal Strider (easily captured within Vale of Eternal Blossoms).
Turn 1 Pump
Turn 2 Cleansing Rain (this will cover the fire field with rain, and buffing all water damage by 25%, while healing all pets a bit)
Turn 3 Pump, Finishing off the first pet
Second Pet comes in
Turn 1-2 Pump Twice , bringing it to its knees before it finishes the eternal strider off.
Bring in Level Pet (should be around 600+ hp, more if mechanical)
Swap to Snail (2nd pet will kill himself)
follow normal strat above

This always works for me. I don't have a sprite darter hatchling and my nfd never works. This strat should be on the board.

Hobbyhorse wrote on 2017-06-30 20:25:58

I did use a Strider as last pet (1-2-2). Select Strider with most healt.

Turn 1: Evanescence
Turn 2: Moonfire
Turns 3+: Arcane Blast until Cackling Flame is dead

Devouring Blaze comes in
Turn 1: Evanescence
Turns 2+: Arcane Blast until your Sprite Darter Hatchling dies
Bring in your Level Pet
Turn 1: Swap to your Strider

If Sprite Darter Hatchling dies and Devouring Blaze is still alive, change to level pet, then Strider, use Pump twice.

Turn 1: Pump
Turn 2: Cleansing Rain
Turn 3: Water Jet
Turn 4: Water Jet
Turn 5+: Pump

TD Script for Sprite Darter Hatchling - Any Level 10+ Pet - Any Strider

change(#3) [self(#2).active]
ability(Evanescence:440) [enemy.round=1]
ability(Moonfire:595) [weather(Scorched Earth:171)]
ability(Pump:297) [enemy(#2).active]
ability(Pump:297) [!enemy.aura(Extra Plating:391).exists]
ability(Cleansing Rain:230) [enemy.round=2]
ability(#1)
change(#2)

Using the TD Script my snail used dive on the first round vs Living Coals, doesn't seem intended. Using a H/H Scooter the Snail (Rare). It was able to finish the fight with just acidic goo + ooze touch though I think it would've been quite a lot faster if the dive wasn't reduced on his shield.

Yeanna wrote on 2017-05-20 05:41:22

I tried it slightly different from your strategy at the living coals (tried it with 4 different characters, and seemed to work well). First 2 ooze touches. Then acidic goo, followed by dive. Because he is not damaged enough, he will not enter the healing state yet, and your dive will be aligned with him not having a shield. 2 ooze touches should finish the job before he has a change to start healing anything.

Druey wrote on 2017-05-20 14:48:47

Excellent amendment to this strategy. Quicker.

Yes this works much better. Thank you!

Thanks, changed the strat :) It's probably breed depending, but this should still work even if the coals start healing

Cadred wrote on 2017-05-30 15:17:22

Thanks for the strat. I was able to use a lvl 23 snail and got a lucky quillen cub from 7 to 11. I have to say that with the snail being lvl 23 the last bit was by the hair of my chinny chin chin. thanks again.

TryChick wrote on 2017-04-05 07:26:23

A leveling pet bookended between Dancing Water Skimmers/Striders works great too. Just pump, pump, healing wave when needed and water jet if it will take out the other pet rather than using pump.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-03-28 10:57:42

The easiest way I found to do this (i.e. basically no thinking at all) was with just a Mud Jumper/Benax and an Eternal Strider. Bubble, then Mudslide, then Water Jet the first two pets to death (the second one will usually use Armageddon, killing your frog). Send in the Strider, Water Jet, Pump once, pass/Healing Wave until Extra Plating wears off, then Water Jet again and Pump.

Quadrupal wrote on 2017-02-27 12:04:12

I found the S/S breed Rapana Whelk to be the best indeed. Silly me, from a previous fight I forgot to switch from Headbutt to Dive so couldn't use Dive at all, but the Headbutt proved to be rather effective as well. Maybe it did help that my levelling pet was lvl 21 and could throw in a Rupture.

Agu wrote on 2016-12-01 00:21:41

Used Pandaren Water Spirit- 1-2-1, Leveling Pet, Silkbead Snail-1-1-1

Anonymous wrote on 2016-12-21 12:10:33

this worked beautifully

Ntina wrote on 2016-12-21 14:17:02

yep, thats the combo

Anonymous wrote on 2017-02-10 14:36:19

Came to post this. The Water Spirit is great with that setup. He solo'd the first 2 pets, for the third I used an Eternal Strider.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-01-11 14:06:05

Really slow strat, substitue an aqua strider for snail and just use pump till it dies.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-01-31 20:43:41

I didn't have a snail high enough so used an Eternal Strider, had to weave in Healing Wave to keep her up but that + Pump did the trick, thanks!

Marjani wrote on 2016-12-29 22:25:35

It's faster if you don't keep dive exactly on cooldown but time it a little so that it hits while the shield is not up.

Michelle wrote on 2016-12-29 21:15:51

This strategy worked great for me! I used a H/P Shimmershell Snail. Maybe the issue with the H/B Rapana Whelk is there's just not enough power?

Affi wrote on 2016-12-29 18:57:31

This didn't work for me until I used a S/S Rapana Whelk. I tried my H/B eight times, and each time, the Living Coals killed it. Possibly a coincidence, but I think the snail needs to be faster than the Coals.

Rematch Leveling Preferences: 456 hp min, check box for mechanical/magic type, set expected damage type to mechanical.

Glitterbug wrote on 2016-11-16 22:04:25

my friend has this with lvling his mount hatchling and it requires two magic pets and the hatchling do you have anything he can use for this. I will be having to do this also soon as mine gives me the daily any suggestions

Anonymous wrote on 2016-11-29 07:47:35

I used wowhead for that one

Kalaida wrote on 2016-11-28 06:36:10

This tactic just does not work for me - Living Coals kills of my snail every single time before I can finish the battle.
Found it much easier to just go with any two random aquatic pets with Water Jet and Pump + the carry.

Sarth wrote on 2016-10-22 14:50:00

I used an Eternal Strider with 305 speed and 1-2-2. Began charging the pump, second round I covered the fire field with the Cleansing Rain. Third round I fired the pump, one-shotting the fist pet (due to the 25% damage increase from the Rain). The second pet I Pumped twice to bring it to his knees before he finished the Strider. From that point you can continue the strat here, bringing the level pet first, then snail.

Ravynsur wrote on 2016-11-16 23:08:02

Great strat, 2nd time I tried it my RNG was super bad so I just used 2 striders same move set and my lvl pet and it worked pretty well. Probably just as RNG as yours but it worked as well. :) Thanks for posting this it gave me the idea to throw a 2nd strider in my line up.

DTJ wrote on 2016-11-16 13:06:50

To make this fight quick, I used Chrominius instead of leveling pet. Following the same strat as above (skipping swap to leveling pet) and have Snail kill off 2nd pet. Then swap to Chrom for 3rd pet and bites until Shield have one round left, then Howl -> Surge. Chrom die and bring in Snail. Then snail will finish off with one attack. (If not, follow the rotation as above.)

Slainy wrote on 2016-11-11 19:54:43

I use Nether Faerie Dragon, instead of the Sprite Darter, which works just as well.

wrote on 2016-11-13 06:22:57

Hey! This works most of the time if you use the Speed breed of the Nether Faerie Dragon (S/S). The other variants often don't work as a substitute, like with this fight.

Rifkin wrote on 2016-11-11 20:02:37

Not the best line up (sure a better one could be made) but it worked just. WQ Falco with 2 magic pets. Started with Ethereal Soul Trader (wasn't the effective so could be swapped) using 211, Viscidus Globule 222 and finished of with Falco (he survided with 40hp)
Actually having a look, if I had to do it again I would try either Legs or Syd the Squid in place of the Ethereal Soultrader.

Anonymous wrote on 2016-11-12 03:25:40

This worked great with Syd the Squid, I finished the battle without even having to use my falcosaur.

Vengent wrote on 2016-11-09 23:55:36

Tried this on 11/9, worked, but it took 62 rounds for Scooter the snail to chip away at the last guy.

Starlytte wrote on 2016-10-22 15:09:21

Your site is amazing! The design is original and sleek. You've done a great job coding, it doesn't bog my computer down. Navigation is a breeze, the interface is intuitive, and I especially love how you've integrated the Rematch string functionality. Obviously you put a lot of work into making this, and I just want to thank you for sharing your talent with the rest of us =)

Stace wrote on 2016-10-17 11:15:56

Didn't have a darter, used a dancing skimmer instead, cleansed the fire and pumped the first guy, it one shot him pretty much. Continued with the rest as written here.

Sneaks wrote on 2016-10-20 19:44:54

Just a note for anyone else lacking a Sprite Darter -- you can catch a Nether Faerie Dragon in Feralas, around Dire Maul. Exact same ability set, and with different breeds.

Stace wrote on 2016-10-22 08:20:22

I have one of these also, but not at 25, hence why I picked this :)

Martin wrote on 2016-10-17 11:51:08

My level 7 carry pet got a little unlucky and died, but otherwise this worked like a charm.

Good point, I changed it to level 10+. It's much safer that way

FlibbitSC wrote on 2016-10-17 14:48:15

Not so sure about the last step on this fight. Devouring Blaze died on the turn my middle pet came in as expected, and still my B/B Rapana Whelk was not able to kill Living Coals after Dive, Acidic Goo, and *19* Ooze Touches. Because of the heals, Living Coals still had ~300hp when my snail died. I had a 25 Dancing Water Skimmer in my middle slot so I had no trouble finishing it off, but I think it would have gone more smoothly continuing to use Dive and Acidic Goo on the snail when available, not just Ooze Touch. There are no snails with the P breed, so breed shouldn't play a role - I suppose an H/H snail might have lasted a turn or two longer, not sure if that might have made the difference - if so, just barely.

Hey FlibbitSC! I've changed it to say use Dive + Acidic Goo as well. Hope it works better like this :-)

Dominia wrote on 2016-10-17 15:53:49

Accidentally left a Pandaren Water Spirit (1,1,1) in the snail slot. Worked fine with Whirlpool & Healing Wave on CD and Water Jet as filler.

This worked as specified for me today, with a level 7 carry pet. I did get in an extra Dive at the end to hurry things up.
